In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made. In him was life, and that life was the light of man.
The light shines in the darkness but the darkness has not understood it.
The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death upon them hath the light shined.
For unto us a child is born unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called wonderful, counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
